Ferrari California Unveiled

Finally, the new Ferrari California has officially been unveiled and already we’re daydreaming about cruising through Sonoma with the top down. With the sun in our faces and the wind in our hair, there’s no way we’re stopping at Mondavi (maybe another day). No… in this daydream we’re off to Infineon, because while the California is a great lazy-day four-seater convertible, it’s also a hard top coupe with 460 hp, a double-clutch paddle shift tranny and carbon ceramic brakes.

DeLorean Story

The DeLorean DMC-12 is a sports car that was manufactured by the DeLorean Motor Company for the American market in 1981 and 1982 in Northern Ireland….

It is most commonly known simply as the DeLorean, as it was the only model ever produced by the company. The DMC-12 featured gull-wing doors with a fiberglass “underbody”, to which non-structural brushed stainless steel panels were affixed. A DeLorean was featured as a home-made time machine in the Back to the Future trilogy.

IT IS A SEDAN…. BUT STILL A CONCEPT

After continuously teasing the world with snap-shots of a new Lamborghini, the Italian exotic car manufacturer has unveiled its latest concept, the four-door Estoque. But the teasing, it seems, has only just begun.

This mid-engined sedan (with the engine situated behind the front axle) could be powered by several possible engine choices says Lamborghini, including the V-10 found in the LP560, or possibly a twin-turbocharged V-8, or even a hybrid or turbo-diesel motor! This Quattro-Lambo utilizes the company’s permanent all-wheel-drive system and features 22-inch wheels up front and 23-inch wheels in the rear.

Remember when the blokes at Top Gear squared off against their German counterparts this past season? Well, now the German perspective from the show DMotor has aired. Hosted by none other than Sabine Schmitz—and a couple of other guys—the episode has been subtitled into English now by some intrepid fanboys at FinalGear. Even if you’ve seen the complementing episode of Top Gear already, it’s interesting to see things from the very serious German angle. For instance, the idea of this drag race in the clip below was to match 3 cars fom Axis countries (Germany, Italy, Japan) against 3 cars from Allied countries (Britain, America, India).

Porsche Claims Nissan Was Cheating On GT-R Nurburgring Lap Times

The boys at Porsche, obviously stunned that the Nissan GT-R achieved a claimed Nurburgring lap time of 7:29 — faster than either their 911 Turbo or GT2 — decided to do a little testing of their own. Using a stock GT-R sourced from the States, Porsche’s ‘Ring expert was able to perform a best lap of just 7:54, easily beaten by both the 911 Turbo (7:38) and GT2 (7:34). The results were no surprise to Porsche, considering that its cars have more power yet weigh less than the GT-R, leading the engineers in Stuttgart to claim Nissan was running its tests using race tires.

Citroen has let slip another drip in the GT by Citroen reveal, and this time it’s a video showing off the dramatic shapes of “The Drive of Your Life.” Dig those mirrors, and the glasshouse swept back in monumental fashion. Whatever is pushing the car’s massive rims apparently needs a lot of air, with two raked scoops behind the canopy and two more on the sides ahead of the rear wheels. And the rear end of the car looks like — dare we say it — a tail… It’s Mach 5 if the car comes together like we expect, or platypus if it doesn’t.

Bentley Arnage production to end with special “Final Series” model

For ten years now the Arnage has been the four-door flagship over at Bentley, but it’s time is quickly coming to an end. To celebrate the end of an era, Bentley is building 150 “Final Series” models which will take the best of the Arnage T and R models, to deliver unprecedented luxury and performance. Bentley also plans to add a dash of excitement with some styling cues taken from the new Brooklands coupe.

Exterior styling will only be changed slightly with body colored headlamp bezels, blacked-out grilles, 10-inch wheels and dual exhaust pipes. The Final Series model will, however, feature a retractable “Flying B” ornament and will have plenty of “Final Series” badges.

The Electric Shopper which got banned

The Beast: The Electric Shopper was constructed in 1957 in Long Beach, California. Designed for the elderly, it got banned due to the little safety and protection it offered. However, looks like someone wants to shop in the funny three-wheeler again. So we have a refurbished Electric Shopper on the roads again.

Officials paving California road that plays William Tell Overture

Residents of northern Los Angeles County are not grooving to this music.

Lancaster city officials said this week that they’re paving over a quarter-mile strip of asphalt grooved to play the William Tell Overture when auto tires speed over it.

The road was completed this month as part of an ad campaign for Honda. It’s engineered to play the overture — also known as the theme to “The Lone Ranger” — at perfect pitch for motorists driving Honda Civics at 55 mph.

With last week’s reveal of the production version of the Chevy Volt comes a rumor GM will sell the Volt across the pond as an Opel. No, we’re not talking about a Segway-pooping Opel Flextreme, we’re actually talking about an Opel Volt. Our sources tell us to expect the 2011 Opel Volt to be mechanically identical to its Chevy sibling and share much of the overall exterior and interior styling.

Taxi drivers ‘have brain sat-nav’

Scientists have uncovered evidence for an inbuilt “sat-nav” system in the brains of London taxi drivers.

They used magnetic scanners to explore the brain activity of taxi drivers as they navigated their way through a virtual simulation of London’s streets.

Different brain regions were activated as they considered route options, spotted familiar landmarks or thought about their customers.

The research was presented at this week’s BA Science Festival.
