Over in the forums there is a discussion going on about a meme that has been making its way around the food blogosphere for a few weeks. I do not know who came up with this list, but it’s a list of 100 things you should eat before you die. In its meme form, it is just a list and while I enjoy food, I am not shy to say that I haven’t had a a lot of these things and didn’t know what some of them were. So, I decided to spend some time and get a few sentences, photos and links together so that I could learn what these were as well as (hopefully) help other people to know what they are. Enjoy!
And how much of that list has gone down your throat?

Ok then – here’s my list:
Venison – not that uncommon here
Steak tartare – on toast with raw egge yolk and chopped onions :p
Crocodile – it’s gooood!
Black pudding – Danish variant; blood sausage. Fried w/cinnamon and sugar
Cheese fondue – :p
Borscht – Yummy!
Calamari – try it w/ tzatziki
PB&J sandwich
Hot dog from a street cart – Danish style…
Black truffle – you don’t eat this alone. Last I had it with a scallop…mmmmmm
Fruit wine made from something other than grapes
Pistachio ice cream – when made right it’s VERY good!
Heirloom tomatoes
Fresh wild berries – wild straw-, rasp-, black-, and blueberries
Foie gras – I’m not fond of this. too blubbery
Brawn, or head cheese – Danish and Russian variants from pork or veal
Oysters – sampled; I’ll have it again!
Wasabi peas
Clam chowder in a sourdough bowl – so good!
Sauerkraut
Root beer float – with coke instead of the horrible root beer
Cognac with a fat cigar – I’ll pass on the cigar, but cognac, armanac or calvados are good!
Clotted cream tea – in Cornwall; good!
Oxtail – as soup
Curried goat – homemade by an Indian friend. Incredibly good!
Goat’s milk
Single malt whisky – YES!! Islays in particular!
Chicken tikka masala – is there any bad Indian food?
Eel – I prefer fried over smoked, very different than other fish. Try it!
McDonald’s Big Mac Meal – I’d rather have a GOOD burger!
Beer above 8% ABV – Beer is good! Period!
Currywurst
Frogs’ legs – it’s good, but what’s the fuss about?
Gazpacho
Caviar and blini
Snail – no taste, but the mushroom and garlic it was served with was good
Tom yum – is yumyum!
Eggs Benedict – at a hotel breakfast buffet
Hare
Goulash – never had the spicy variant
Horse – I was about 7yo, but I liked it!
Soft shell crab – In sushi (maki)
Bagel and lox – good on any white bread…
Some things missing:
Sushi – good, fresh made sushi!
Scallops – light fried or in a dish – so good!
Tzatziki – Greek yogurt w/ garlic & cucumber
Thai ice tea – perfect with Thai food
Pizza – good, fresh italian style
And as for the caviar and blinis, try blinis or bread with e.g.
lumpsucker roe, chopped, red onion and a bit of sourcream, as a starter…
