Hard Rock Park, a 140-acre theme park in Myrtle Beach, S.C., opened with great fanfare last April, hoping to lure tourists with a penchant for roller coasters and Led Zeppelin. Now, though, despite four years in development and two years in construction, the attraction is unplugging just nine months after opening.

Yesterday, a Delaware bankruptcy judge approved the company’s request to begin liquidating what was billed as the world’s first rock ‘n’ roll theme park and the single-largest tourism investment in South Carolina history.

A 37-year-old Oxford woman was arrested Jan. 2 for allegedly shoplifting a parenting book while accompanied by her two young children.

Callie Rough reportedly entered the Dollar General Store with her two children. An employee told officers the four seemed to act suspiciously while in the store, but it wasn’t until they attempted to leave that she noticed Rough’s purse appeared to be noticeably larger than it had been minutes earlier.

Rough reportedly refused to allow the clerk to search her purse, then ran to the back of the store and began unloading stolen items from the bag. As the four subjects fled from the store, the clerk said Rough threw an additional handful of items at her.

The clerk told police Rough had concealed wash clothes, small hand towels, a small rug and a book entitled “101 Ways to Be a Great Mom” in her purse.

After 30 years of collecting 300,000 pennies, Craig Stueber discovered Monday someone had stolen all of them, according to a police report.

Stueber told the Chesterton (Ind.) Police Department he had spent the past three decades collecting the pennies in a cast iron milk jug, which few people knew about, according to the report. Stueber had to use a dolly the last time he moved the jug, according to the report.

Whoever took it likely would have needed help to move it in one batch. According to the MegaPenny Project Web site, which tells the size and weights of various large amounts of pennies, 300,000 pennies would weigh about 1,842 pounds - slightly less than a ton.

Tilt-shift Photography

Tilt-shift photography ( click for movies)  refers to the use of camera movements on small- and medium format cameras. In many cases, it refers to tilting the lens relative to the image plane and using a large aperture to achieve a very shallow depth of field. The technique relies on the Scheimpflug principle and usually requires the use of special lenses.

“Tilt-shift” actually encompasses two different types of movements: rotation of the lens, called tilt, and movement of the lens parallel to the image plane, called shift. Tilt is used to control the orientation of the plane of focus (PoF), and hence the part of an image that appears sharp. Shift is used to control perspective, usually involving the convergence of parallel lines.
