Working off the reality TV successes of such shows as America’s Top Model, the BBC is launching a show entitled Britain’s Missing Top Model. In it, the contestants all have a physical disability:…a woman whose arm was severed in a bus crash, another who is profoundly deaf and an aspiring film director who suffers from a degenerative neuro-muscular disorder, which means she is largely confined to a wheelchair.
The show’s creators hoped the series would challenge pre-conceived notions of beauty and raise disability awareness.
Well, okay then, as long as the producers of the show are doing this for strictly altruistic reasons and not just for ratings.
