Inspired by a 2005 episode of Southpark where Cartman preaches hatred against redheads by declaring they have no soul, a Facebook group declared Nov. 20 “National Kick a Ginger Day.” There were reports of dozens of children being kicked, including this young woman–“I started running away and then suddenly one of them said something like ‘Oh, I’m going to kick you. You have no soul, so you probably can’t feel pain either.’”
How did Canadian authorities react to Kick a Ginger Day? Predictably: Comox Valley RCMP were investigating the group, saying it potentially involved hate crime. Cyber-bullying expert Karen Brown said the Facebook group was a serious concern. “I’m just absolutely appalled,” said Brown. “It’s really unprecedented,” she said. “This is inciting hate,” she said. “This is tantamount to almost a hate website.”
For the love of God, shut the hell up.
